The place itself

Hay Lake Lodge is a lakefront cottage retreat on Hay Lake in the Algonquin Highlands of Ontario, a short drive from the east gate of Algonquin Park. The property has been welcoming guests since 1953, when Gordon and Clover Palbiski first opened its doors. And the sense of unhurried hospitality established in that era still defines the lodge today. The setting is classic Canadian Shield: a quiet lake edged by boreal forest, with the kind of stillness that is genuinely difficult to find within a reasonable drive of the Greater Toronto Area. The lodge offers a selection of cabin accommodations. Cedar Cabin, Aspen, The Birches, and Hazelnut. Each set amid trees and oriented toward the lake. Cedar Cabin is available for shorter holiday stays from May through October; Aspen is possible for quick spring and fall breaks; while The Birches and Hazelnut are well suited to those seeking longer monthly or seasonal residencies.
