The place itself

Wolf Den Nature Retreat is a log cabin lodge and eco-cabin complex situated on the Oxtongue River in the Algonquin Highlands. 9 km from the West Gate of Algonquin Park, in the community of Oxtongue Lake on the traditional lands of the Algonquin First Nation. The property operates with an explicit mission: to provide affordable, community-oriented accommodation that promotes both human connection and a personal relationship with nature. Guests stay in one of two distinct settings. The five independent eco-cabins each contain a private kitchen, dining area, lounge, and bathroom. Self-contained retreats for one to six people, designed for solitude and immersion in the Algonquin Highlands forest. In 2016 these cabins received the Enviro-Hero Award from the Township of Algonquin Highlands for modelling the use of local, sustainable materials and environmentally friendly construction practices. The hostel. Comprising bunkhouses, private hostel cabins, main lodge rooms, and a shared backpackers dorm in summer.
