Mihir Garh

Mihir Garh, the Fort of the Sun, stands on Mali Nathji ka Dhora, a dune the owners name as dedicated to the warrior god of Marwar. The official page is written in the first person: Rashmi and her husband conceived the fort on that dune, and more than a hundred carpenters, craftsmen and artisans from the region built it over two years. It opened in 2009. There are nine suites, each more than 1,700 square feet. Ground-floor Alishan suites have a private courtyard and plunge pool. First-floor Shandar suites have a terrace and jacuzzi. Village women from Khandi and Haji made the fireplaces with cow dung and clay. Furnishings were bought in the Jodhpur region. The published signature is the village safari, which the family says they pioneered in 1988: homes of Bishnoi, Raika, Paliwal and Meghwal families, and the blackbuck that stay near Bishnoi land. There is a Marwari stable, a spa of two treatment rooms in a walled garden using organic and Ayurvedic products from desert plants, an infinity pool looking over the countryside, royal picnics, shikar dinners, birding by bicycle, and cookery from the late Thakurani Jayendra Kumari's recipes, now taught by Rashmi Singh. Rainwater is collected in a cistern. Grey and black water are treated. Solar heating supplies hot water. The fort is listed as 64 km from the airport.
