Glenburn Tea Estate

A working Darjeeling tea estate where the factory tour, the pluck, and dinner at the bungalow are the same stay.

Feel

The place

The factory

A guided tour while leaf is withered, rolled, fermented, dried and sorted, then a tasting of the estate's black, green, oolong and white teas.

Two leaves and a bud

Walk the fields with a guide and learn to pluck with the Glenburn tea picker women.

River Rung Dung

Lunch at No. 10 Bamboo Grove on the sandy banks, through a bamboo forest, with rock pools to paddle.

The kitchen garden

Menus use fruit, vegetables, herbs and spices from the estate garden. Bread and marmalade are made here.

Dinner at the table

Dinner is usually shared in the dining room with hosts and other guests, not taken alone in the room.

Our read

Glenburn is worth the journey because you sleep on a working Darjeeling estate and spend the day in the factory, the fields and the two valleys, not at a viewpoint hotel above town.

Come here for

  • Travellers who want the factory, the pluck and a tasting in the same day as the bungalow
  • People who will sit down to dinner with other guests rather than order room service
  • Walkers who will take the river path to Bamboo Grove or the campsite through Simbong

Skip it if

  • You want a Darjeeling town hotel with shops at the door.
  • You need a printed spa menu. Glenburn's published day is tea, walks, meals and the river.

We’d rather send you somewhere else than send you somewhere that doesn’t suit you.

Glenburn is a working tea estate in the Darjeeling hills, not a hotel that happens to sit near tea. Guests walk or drive the fields with a guide, learn to pluck two leaves and a bud, and go through the factory while withering, rolling, fermenting, drying and sorting are taking place. The tour ends with a tasting of black, green, oolong and white teas made on the estate. Lunch can be at No. 10 Bamboo Grove on the sandy banks of the River Rung Dung, at the Coffee Bari on the hillside, or back at the bungalow. Meals, snacks and refreshments are included in the tariff. Menus follow each guest's preferences, from local and Indian dishes to South-East Asian and European cooking, using herbs and salad leaves from the kitchen garden. They bake their own bread and make their own marmalade. Breakfast is served between 7am and 11am. Dinner is usually a sit-down meal in the dining room with hosts and other guests, or outdoors in warmer months. Bed tea can be brought to the room. Picnics and river barbecues are arranged on request. The city office email is info@glenburnteaestate.com. The mobile printed on the contact page is +91 98 300 70213. Reserve with the hotel. MindReach does not take the booking.
