Xintiandi is a walkable set of old lanes, and the hotel sits on Madang Road inside that walk. The number that matters is 357 rooms, 41 of them suites, in a 28-floor building. The meal that justifies the address is T'ang Court: two Michelin stars in the 2026 guide, after ten years with a star, on the fifth floor, with only 24 seats in the open room. Afternoon tea faces the lanes. Come if the shikumen streets and that Cantonese room are the trip. Skip it if you wanted the Bund and a river room. That is The Peninsula, at No. 32.

The hotel says the 2026 Michelin Guide for Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, unveiled on 9 April, kept a star for the tenth year and raised the room to two stars. Lunch is 11:30 am to 2:00 pm and dinner is 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm. The à la carte room seats 24. Private rooms seat 91. A table is held 15 minutes. Cachet is the all-day room, later on Friday and Saturday. Afternoon tea is 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, in the lobby or at Al Fresco opposite the lanes. XTD Elevated is the outdoor terrace.
