Upper House Chengdu
Chengdu already has large luxury hotels. Upper House is the small one, and the smallness is the point: 100 rooms and 42 apartments, inside a courtyard that was already there, next to a temple that is about a thousand years old. The meal that matches that idea is Mi Xun, a Michelin-starred vegetarian Sichuan teahouse, not a generic hotel grill. Jing is the courtyard bar, and the drink they lead with is a Sichuan Negroni. A penthouse with a library is a different booking from a studio. Come if the courtyard and that table are why you are in Jinjiang. Skip it if you wanted a vast resort pool and a steakhouse.
