## Our read

The camp is built on the confluence, not pointed at it. Fifteen tents, peak breakfast, and Nong Yao are how the two rivers become the stay. Bill Bensley's thatch is the shelter.

## Come here for

- Fifteen tents where Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet
- Breakfast on the peak, then dinner at Nong Yao
- A day with the elephants through the foundation they name

## Skip it if

- You want several restaurants and a night scene
- Close time with elephants is not how you want to spend the day

## The place

Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle stands where the Ruak River meets the Mekong, at the point where Thailand, Myanmar and Laos come together. The camp opened in January 2006. The address they publish is P.O. Box 18, Chiang Saen, Chiang Rai 57150. Ivan Giles is general manager. There are 15 tents and one two-bedroom Explorer's Lodge. Bill Bensley Design did the architecture and the interiors. They describe the tents as a 19th-century expedition: handcrafted furniture, hardwood floors, traditional thatched roofs. The spa is an open-air platform over a jungle valley, with two treatment rooms. Treatments they name include Mahout Recovery, Ruak Bamboo, and Doi Tung Rejuvenator, each listed at 90 minutes. Nong Yao restaurant cooks Thai, Laotian, Burmese and Western food. Burma Bar sits beside it. They also list breakfast on the camp's peak, a Kanthok dinner, and a private dinner at the elephant camp. The day they publish includes elephant bathing, breakfast with the elephants, a session they call My Elephant and I, cooking and cocktail classes, birdwatching, and foraging. Off the camp they list the Hall of Opium, Doi Mae Salong, and the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation. There is one pool. Staying guests receive all-inclusive benefits, in their wording. Confirm the current list when you book. Book on fourseasons.com/goldentriangle. MindReach does not take the reservation.
