## Our read

Rajakkad is worth the journey because you sleep in an 18th-century wooden palace of seven rooms on a Palani Hills plantation, and the yoga is a platform in the garden rather than a resident class. A hill hotel with a spa menu is another stay.

## Come here for

- Travellers who will go to the Palani Hills for a small wooden house, not a large hill station hotel
- People who can practise yoga on their own, or who will bring a teacher
- Families or small groups who want the whole house, up to 14 people

## Skip it if

- You need a resident yoga teacher or a printed spa menu. The platform is there. The teacher is not.
- You want to visit in May, June or July. The rates page says the house is closed those months.

## The place

Rajakkad Estate sits in the Palani Hills of Tamil Nadu, in the foothills of the Western Ghats, at 1000 metres. The house at the centre of the old plantation is Pallam Palace, an 18th-century wooden structure with seven bedrooms. The rooms page is plain about the fabric: en-suite bathrooms, white walls, black oxide floors, and sliding doors from each room into the garden. Deluxe rooms, three of them, look to the hills. Three standard queen rooms and one standard king or twin complete the house. The whole place can be taken for up to 14 people. The yoga page puts a stone platform of polished black oxide on a rocky escarpment in the garden, among flowering trees, bamboo and palms. There is no resident teacher. Mats and equipment are kept for guests who practise on their own, and guest practitioners are invited from time to time. The same page says the house is willing to host a retreat. Rates printed for 2026 and 2027 include lunch, dinner, breakfast, and tea or coffee through the day, plus 18 percent tax. The house is closed to guests in May, June and July. Wifi exists, and the rates page warns that the mountain connection is intermittent. Bookings go to reservation@rajakkadestate.com. Robesh George is named as manager on the contact page, with +91 9487444333 and +91 8973444555. Reserve with the hotel. MindReach does not take the booking.
