## Our read

The strange fact is the name. The town in Diqing is called Shangri-La, and the resort uses the same words, on Chicika Street in Jiantang. The hotel says the trip begins as a search. That is more honest than a list of amenities, and it is also a warning: the page does not print a room count, and it does not hand you the novel as a map. Come if the high town is the point. Skip it if you wanted a Shangri-La tower in a provincial capital. Those are other hotels.

## Come here for

- Jiantang, and a hotel that shares the town's name
- A stay where the address is the reason
- Asking the room category, because no total is printed

## Skip it if

- You wanted Shangri-La Beijing, Chengdu, or Pudong. This one is in Diqing.
- You expected the page to count the rooms. It does not.

## The place

Shangri-La Resort, Shangri-La is at No. 1 Chicika Street, Jiantang Town, in the Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan 674499. The hotel phone is +86 887 899 8998. The town and the hotel share a name. The hotel's own line is that going there, and staying there, comes from a search for the place itself. The page does not print a room count, so this guide does not invent one. It also does not turn the novel into a list of sights the hotel did not name. The decision is whether Jiantang, at that address, is the journey. A city Shangri-La in Beijing or Chengdu is a different booking. Reserve with the hotel. MindReach does not take the booking.

## What it is like

- The street: No. 1 Chicika Street, Jiantang.
- The prefecture: Diqing, in Yunnan, not a provincial capital.
- The gap: No room total is printed. Ask.
- The other hotels: Every other Shangri-La in this note is a city.
